Eyeliner: the MVP of most makeup bags. Whether it’s a solo flick on a fresh face, a hazy smudge along the lower lash line or winged out wide like a Saint Laurent girl, its effects are endless. Still despite its prevalence in many a makeup routine, it’s still easy to go wrong with eyeliner and the result can have an ageing effect.

“One big mistake I notice women make with eye makeup is they will do the top line first and then join the bottom to it, which instantly cuts off and droops the eye,” says makeup artist Rae Morris, explaining that the lifting magic of liner comes from what happens underneath rather than on top.
