Kate Spade has been found dead in her New York apartment.

Authorities said the fashion designer’s death appeared to be a suicide. Her husband, Andy Spade was home at the time.

Kate, who sold the world-famous brand in 2007, and Andy share a 13-year-old daughter.

Tributes have flowed for Spade, who in 2016 legally changed her name to Kate Valentine and had started working on a new label called Frances Valentine.

“Kate Spade was more than a designer,” tweeted Lena Dunham.

“She had a quirky visual language that captivated Bat Mitzvah girls and artists alike. She was also a staple of NYC who spread good will. My heart breaks for her family. Thank you, Kate, from one of the millions you made feel beautiful.”

“I am heartbroken about the news of Kate Spade,” Mindy Kaling said.

“I have worn her clothes many, many times. They were colorful, bold, cheerful, and encouraged women to find the twinkly person inside them. You couldn’t walk into her boutiques and not smile. Rest In Peace, Kate.”

“Very saddened to hear about the passing of Kate Spade,” said Lucy Hale.

“Mental illness does not discriminate and can happen to anyone with any circumstances. I hope she has found peace.”

Spade founded the eponymous brand of clothes, bags and shoes in 1993.

In 2006 Neiman Marcus purchased the brand, and Kate temporarily stepped away from the fashion world to raise her daughter.

The brand released a statement upon learning of Kate’s death, saying:

“Kate has not been affiliated with the brand for more than a decade, she and her husband and creative partner, Andy, were the founders of our beloved brand. Kate will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with Andy and the entire Spade family at this time.”
