There’s little question Victoria Beckham is an incredibly successful luxury fashion designer – as proven again at her much lauded Autumn/Winter 2017 show in New York last month – but her much-hyped collaboration with Target, due to drop on April 9, proves she’s got both a real knack for that high street fashion thing too.
Add to that the fact its official video ad campaign, teased on her social media channels last night and shown at the end of this article, proves she’s got a sense of humour (but then if, like us, you follow VB’s Instagram, you probably knew that already, right?) and we’re already sold.

The collaboration, which also includes a plus-size range and kidswear – both a first for Beckham – features fluttering simple shift dresses and cigarette pant suits, with big florals and checks prints to break up the otherwise mostly monochrome palette.
“For a while now, I have been thinking how great it would be to work on clothes for a customer that either doesn’t want to pay or can’t pay designer prices,” says Beckham. “I loved the idea of opening the brand up to a wider audience and being able to share my vision with a broader customer base.”

Adding to the fun, the collection’s video campaign, directed by Willy Vaderperre – the same man who conjured these brilliant Calvin Klein ads starring the cast of Moonlight – stars supermodels Sasha Pivovarova and Lineisy Montero bouncing to the catchy Spice Girls ‘90s anthem Spice Up Your Life.
For years, rumours have suggested Beckham was the spoke in the Spice reunion wheel, and that her aspirations to be viewed as a serious entity in the lofty (read: often snobby) word of luxury fashion meant she’d rather we forgot her Posh Spicy past.
Clearly, that’s either not so, or she’s clever enough to recognise the same people who’d be nostalgic about her girl band days are her ideal ‘Target’ market or are too young to remember and will just think it’s an incredibly catchy song.

There are more than 200 pieces in the collection – making it on the especially large side for a Target collaboration – with Beckham flagging the silk crepe tuxedo shirt as her personal favourite.
“It’s the kind of the thing you can wear during the day—I actually wore it underneath my [Adidas] tracksuit in New York—or with a pair of smart trousers in the evening as well,” she told a US publication while speaking of the “sophisticated and chic” collection. “I’m excited for everyone to see it.”
Her junior assistant (aka 6-year-old daughter) Harper wore test-wore several of the pieces during the production process and picked a dress with bunnies on the collar as her personal fave too. “I know what fabrics [children] like because I’ve been dressing them for a long, long time,” Beckham has said.
Prices for the collection will range up to around $90 for the embellished bug print bomber jacket. Victoria Beckham x Target drops on April 9 in Target stores and on the Victoria Beckham website.
