There would undoubtedly be a few heavenly hangovers today post the 2018 Met Gala (read: the most spectacular red carpet we’ve ever witnessed). But, once you’ve caught up on what went down at Rihanna’s after party, let’s cross the North Atlantic Ocean and stop off in France for you now must attend the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, hangover and all.

A permanent fixture along the Croisette for years, however, was Harvey Weinstein. 2018 marks the first year without the ubiquitous figure and thus amid the subsequent #MeToo movement, the festival’s jury president Cate Blanchett, was strongly questioned by journalists on the lack of representation of female directors.
“They are not there because of their gender,” Blanchett said at the festival’s opening news conference. “They are there because of the quality of their work. We will assess them as filmmakers, as we should.” She continued, “Would I like to have more women displayed? Absolutely. But we are dealing with what we have this year. Our job as industry members away from this festival is to help with change.”
We do agree with her.
