A 47-year-old man has been charged with stealing Frances McDormand’s Best Actress Oscar at the Governor’s Ball afterparty.

The Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri star’s Academy Award went missing after she set it down briefly on a table inside the event.

Security staff soon located the gold trophy, when a photographer stopped Terry Bryant trying to leave the event, Dailymail.com reports. He was arrested and charged with felony grand larceny. He faces a year in prison.

The website also reports he took selfies with the statuette, which is engraved with Frances’ name. It appears Bryant did have a ticket to the event.

Clearly seeing the bright side, a spokesperson for McDormand said: “Fran and Oscar are happily reunited and are enjoying an In-N-Out burger together.”

Frances beat Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) and Meryl Streep (The Post) to the award.
