While it may be considered a faux pas to lose a shoe or – heaven forbid – trip over on the runway, if you’re a big enough supermodel, the headlines for that day will put any designer’s show at the top of global news feeds. Models to cement this formula as true include Bella Hadid who fell at Michael Kors’s SS16 show when she tumbled to the ground as did Candice Swanepoel at Givenchy’s SS15. Today’s case in point: New York Fashion Week. Anna Sui. Gigi Hadid.
The latter lost her platform sandal when it simply fell off as she hit the runway, her stride subsequently lopsided but her pout holding pokerface. Translation: Hadid, who was closing the show, didn’t miss a beat and walked with one incredibly high shoe and one incredibly tip-toed foot. It was her sister, Bella, who came to the aid of her tottering sibling and helped her down the rest of the catwalk. And just like that, Anna Sui’s show is the most photographed in the world right now (Sorry Zimmermann). While some may whisper of a suspected coup, others simply marvel at how good Hadid looked while slipping up. Now, where can we purchase this olive sequinned dress?
