There was not a devil to be seen in this Prada campaign, rather the angelic Gigi Hadid with a new pair of bleached brows. And if anyone is going to make you bleach your brows, it’s Miuccia Prada. The fashion demigod is so revered in the industry, even modelling dab had Hadid was truly touched to receive the honour of fronting Prada’s Spring / Summer 2019 campaign. “It’s hard to put into words how much this means to me. There are just some things in life you dream about but don’t think you’ll achieve; to Mrs. Prada, @ashleybrokaw, @zambishot, and the entire team – thank you for this incredible experience and opportunity to prove myself. We had the best time working on this project and I can’t wait to share more !!” she wrote on Instagram.
The rest of the cast reads like a classic Prada roll call; Miuccia’s forever muse, Freja Beha Erichsen, and Anok Yai, the first black model to open a Prada show since Naomi Campbell in 1997 co-star with Prada newcomer Gigi Hadid. Lensed by Willy Vanderperre, the campaign is actually fragments of “a series of suspenseful short films,” and features Hadid with a beauty look so bold it warrants a double (and triple) take.
With a choppy micro fringe, clumpy spider lashes and bleached brows, it’s Gigi Hadid like you’ve never seen her before. Gone is that long, luscious mane she is known for, replaced with a cropped, chopped fringe which sits perfectly beneath an oversized pink silk headband (a Prada staple). And as for those iconic brows, they have been masterfully camouflaged with a combination of bleach and makeup. Just like Kaia Gerber’s bleach job at their Spring / Summer 19 runway show, Hadid, too, has taken the plunge – all in the name of Prada.
She’s also the latest celeb to get caught in the spider lash trend. After Lucy Boynton’s spectacular spider lash at the Golden Globes, Hadid’s Prada-approved riff on the ’60s Twiggy lash is equally as sublime. Thick and chunky, Hadid’s lashes have been coated in copious coats of mascara and clumped-out to perfection.
Like a modern doll, Gigi Hadid and Prada prove the bleached brow and spider lash are a beauty force to be reckoned with.
