Gigi Hadid has become walking Pinterest board for beauty inspiration. Whether it’s high and tight, braided and bohemian, naturally wavy or styled somewhere in between, we can always rely on her to serve up some serious hair inspiration. Set to host the Much Music Awards in Toronto, Hadid stepped out with her long, thick golden hair in a supercharged single plait hanging all the way down her back.

Hadid’s hairstylist Jennifer Yepez, was responsible for the look modernising the mono braid for her It-girl client. With countless A-Listers on her books including, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambriosio, Constance Jablonski and Chanel Iman, Yepez is constantly finds ways to weave her plaiting magic onto the red carpet.
On-stage rehearsing for her hosting gig a few hours earlier, Gigi already had her game-day plait in place, proving that when done right the braid is one hairstyle that has some serious longevity.
While Gigi’s braid appears to have had some extra boosting via extensions, there are several styling tricks to feigning extra hair for a chunkier plait. “Using a mini crimper through the lengths first will help create that extra texture and volume in finer hair,” recommends Sydney hairstylist, Natalie Anne, “And because the groves are small they won’t make an obviously crimp in the hair.
Her next big tip? Volumising powders, which she says are a braider’s best friend particularly if your hair is fine. “After braiding sprinkle some texturizing powder over the top and gently pull it apart for that messier effect, you won’t believe the difference it will make to the finished look.”
