Gigi Hadid led many to believe she was #WithHer in the days after the US presidential election, sharing tweets from Hillary Clinton after Donald Trump won.

The model has not revealed who she voted for on November 8, but in a new interview she expressed her support for president elect Trump.

“Donald has won and he’s going to be the President and, you know, honestly, as a country we have to give him a chance because that’s what our country voted for and that’s what we accept as citizens in this country,” she told the Associated Press.

The 21-year-old was probably only trying to give a measured response in an attempt not to alienate any fans, but on this the hot-button issue, that’s basically impossible.

Many fans tweeted the Victoria’s Secret Angel that they were disappointed she had shown any support for Trump. Some raised the point that her boyfriend Zayn Malik and her father are both Muslim – Trump has expressed his intention to make it difficult for Muslims to enter America and used dangerous rhetoric that fails to make a distinction between Muslims and terrorists.

But Gigi was only echoing the sentiment of many democrats, including Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton herself, who despite wanting Clinton for president, have agreed to allow Trump to have a chance at the job. She also urged Americans to get out and vote at the next election – less than half of the population headed to the ballot boxes this year.

I think we hopefully can get it up in our next election and make sure that everyone’s voices are heard…I think it’s easier to accept the outcome when you know it’s truly what people want.”

But after all that, it appears Gigi might still be undecided about who she’d rather have lead her country: she retweeted a link to a change.org petition urging the US Electoral College to choose Clinton over Trump, which they could still technically do.

Is it just us or is the US political system really complicated? No wonder Gigi is confused.
