The 2020 Golden Globes nominations are finally here! After weeks of speculation and whispers among industry insiders, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has spoken.
Traditionally speaking, the Golden Globes – with its open bar and social dinner setting – has always been the rowdier, fancy-free sister to the pompous Academy Awards; a night where the biggest names in film can unpin their hairsprayed-stiff top knots and let their hair down at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
I would like to take this opportunity to point out Jennifer Aniston is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as newsreader Alex in the Apple TV+ phenomenon The Morning Show. Her co-star Reese Witherspoon is also nominated in this same category and Aniston posted this cute little tribute earlier.
Jennifer Lopez is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion picture category for her role as the take-no-prisoners stripper named Ramona in Hustlers. This is her first Golden Globes nomination in 20 years.
Against her in the same category is Australian actress Margot Robbie who is nominated for her role in the FOX News Roger Ailes’ biopic Bombshell.
Netflix this year has a huge haul. Marriage Story – with Laura Dern and Scarlett Johansson – has six nominations and The Irishman – with Robert De Niro – has nabbed five.
The Golden Globes will take place on Sunday January 5 2020 and will be hosted by Ricky Gervais at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
