What do you get when you cross a sartorial safe bet with classic red carpet glamour? This year’s hottest red carpet gown trend to date.

With no less than six big-name stars walking the the 74th Annual Golden Globes red carpet today in a fitted black gown showcasing a daring deep V-neckline, its safe to say fashion’s go-to ‘safe’ dress style has had a sexy spruce up.

Nominee Mandy Moore sent the mercury rising in a super-sexy Naeem Khan gown with built-in chiffon cape. Busy Phillips on the other hand offered a more demure take on the trend in a long-sleeve embroidered dress with a less dramatic plunge.

Amy Schumer’s Alexander Wang gown has drawn widespread applause across social media channels. Possibly the most relaxed of the ‘plunging V’ club during the award ceremony, Schumer was guaranteed zero wardrobe malfunctions thanks to an in-built modesty panel across the bust. (The ideal way for bigger-busted ladies to embrace the plunge look sans bra.)

Jessica Biel and Kristen Bell both sported plunging V’s that were more like U’s, but were equal winners in the ‘most daring’ stakes. Biel, who clearly thinks the ‘less is more’ mantra is over-rated, dared to share a touch of side boob and a thigh-high split, sparking a mixture and ‘worst dress’ banter in various online reviews.
