When Grimes dropped her eclectic, self-directed clip for new single, California, yesterday, her Instagram followers were busy marvelling over another recent release for the artist: her famous candy-coloured hair.

Standing in her bathroom and armed with a pair of scissors, the anime-obsessed artist documented her intimate hair transformation for her 540k Instagram followers.

Saying goodbye to the candy-coloured hair that featured in her recent Stella McCartney Pop fragrance campaign, and made her stand out sitting front row at Nicholas Ghesquiere’s Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2016, provocative post-apocalyptic show, her fresh look was still every-bit Japanese anime-inspired, one of Grime’s main (and mane) muses.

Asking her followers: “Do I keep cutting or quit while I’m ahead — should probably just go full scar face.” The urban fairy took to her collarbone length pink-ombre locks with a DIY chop fulfilling her every anime dream.
