Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were mocked when they coined the term “conscious uncoupling” to describe their divorce in 2014 – but it’s working out.
Paltrow shared a photo on Instagram of Christmas stockings on her mantle, and while no one is surprised to see one for husband Brad Falchuk and her children Apple and Moses, some were shocked to see one for her Coldplay singer ex, too.
It’s not clear how much of the Christmas holidays Martin will spend at the home of his ex-wife and her new husband, who she married this year, or whether his girlfriend Dakota Johnson will go (although without a stocking with her name on it on the mantle, it seems unlikely).
Regardless, more than a few people are probably eating their words after slamming ‘conscious uncoupling’ as pretentious BS. Four years after announcing their split, the exes are friendly and civil, a much healthier situation for their children.
“The ideal is to stay married. But if you can’t stay married, wouldn’t the ideal be that you could still be a family and you could put aside your own stuff long enough to explore — what is this new family and who am I in it?” Paltrow said in 2016.
“And Chris is a great ex-husband ’cause he’s a very, very willing partner in how to do that. We’re constantly putting aside our own stuff and trying to reimagine something that we don’t personally have an example for.
“We put a lot of thought into how to do it so that the damage [to our kids] would be minimised.”
Maybe they were onto something after all.
