Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams arrive at the Academy Awards in 2006.

“I never gave up on love. I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.’” It was the interview the world waited for for ten years. Fiercely private actress Michelle Williams finally opened up about her relationship with Heath Ledger, who tragically died of an overdose on prescription medication in New York in 2008. Now, Williams has secretly married a new love on the weekend – indie rockstar Phil Elverum and Ledger’s father, Kim says his family couldn’t be happier for their granddaughter’s mother.

“We are terribly happy, it is great,” Ledger told the Sydney Morning Herald. “[Williams is] very private and I don’t really like to make too many comments about her, but we are very happy [for her].

Heath Ledger and Williams met on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004 and were together three years. They had a daughter, Matilda.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Williams talked about Elverum who plays in a band called Mount Eerie. “Obviously I’ve never once in my life talked about a relationship,” Williams told the publication. “But Phil isn’t anyone else. And that’s worth something.”

“Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole,” she continued. “I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”
