“Here are the all-male nominees” said Natalie Portman as she presented the 2018 Golden Globe award for Best Director. There is a high chance the actor won’t be asked to present the same award at this year’s Academy Awards since, well, no female directors have been nominated.

In one of the biggest upsets making its way around the internet, Greta Gerwig – who beautifully adapted Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel Little Women for the screen – was not nominated for Best Director. She did, however, receive a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

The origin story of Batman’s famous foe Joker received a staggering 11 nominations – followed closely by Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, The Irishman, and 1917.

Despite being nominated twice in the same category at this year’s BAFTAs, Australian actor Margot Robbie received just one Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood. Leonardo DiCaprio is nominated for Best Actor for the same film – but it will likely go to Adam Driver who took home the Best Actor gong for Marriage Story at the Golden Globes last week.

As was the case last year, there will be no host.

The 2020 Academy Awards will air on February 9 (February 10 AEST) from Los Angeles.
