When’s the last time you saw a Formula One pit crew wearing a romper suit, fabulous costume earrings, bright red lips and crystal-studded stilettos?

Never? More’s the pity. But then, of course not because anyone looking that good would be a distraction hazard when fast cars, hard attitudes and adrenaline are involved. Still, in a world where styling genius Katie Grand dresses models in the Miuccia Prada’s glittering designer wares, any fantasy is possible. And aren’t we glad it is.

After enjoying a brief taste of Miu Miu’s sexy and sparkling moto-chick themed Cruise 2018 collection on the runway back in July, the next big reveal – the high-octane advertising campaign starring a seriously vamped-up Elle Fanning – has finally landed.

While the cheeky collage-look pics are superb, it’s the official campaign video shot by hip Brit photographer Alasdair McLellan and called All I Wanted Was A Car, that’s the stuff of maximalist summer styling dreams. Fanning appears alongside A-list models Joan Smalls, Doutzen Kroes, Anna Ewers, Kesewa Aboah (sister of Vogue UK December cover girl Adwoa), newcomer Lily Nova and gap-toothed sensation Slick Woods.

Think Dynasty goes to Daytona back in the summer of ’85, where wild and strong women steal the show from the most million-dollar rides. Big-haired models stride the track in even bigger pointy collars and mini-skirts.

Wannabe mechanics in tight, bright micro-suits and big belt bags look racy in new-look romper suits, banishing any preconceived notion the style is reserved for beachwear, boho festivals and baby girls only. High glamour with high octane attitude has never looked so hot.

Look to the ‘80s for retro romper inspiration: sleeveless and collared with an up-front zip and the shortest of built-in shorts is the way to go. Ladies, start your engines, then scroll (below) for a little moto-love before you roll.
