Back in 1995 when she was a headband-touting First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton famously quipped; “If I want to knock a story off the front page, I just change my hairstyle, and now, 21 years later her appearance continues to make headlines. In her first official post-election appearance since her concession last week, the former U.S presidential candidate delivered an encouraging speech at the Children’s Defence Fund’s Beat the Odds Gala in Washington, DC. “I will admit coming here tonight wasn’t the easiest thing for me,” Clinton told the crowd, before encouraging them and the rest of America to “never give up.” While the sentiment was full of hope, the Internet couldn’t help but focus on what was missing from HRC’s speech – her make-up.

Fresh-faced and sans her signature set waves, Clinton looked particularly kick-ass minus make-up. At the end of what would have been a particularly tough week, Clinton admitted to the crowd, There have been a few times this past week when all I wanted to do is just curl up with a good book or our dogs and never leave the house again.”

Despite some critics, the majority of the Twitter-sphere took the opportunity to applaud both her statement-making speech, and statement-making look. Might Clinton be the newest member of the #nomakeup movement, led by her fierce #Imwithher supporter, Alicia Keys? Or could it have been a subtle throw of shade to the uber-groomed, fake tan-loving Trump camp? Whatever the reason, you go, HRC.
