Luke Perry has died at the age of 52, his publicist has confirmed.
The actor passed away in Los Angeles on Monday local time (Tuesday AM AEST) surrounded by family, including his two children, Jack, 21, and Sophie, 18, and his fiancee, Wendy Madison Bauer, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Last week, the Riverdale star was rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke. While doctors tried to save him, sadly the damage to his brain was too extensive.
“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all,” a statement from CW read.
“A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”
Perry became a household name and Hollywood heartthrob playing Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90210 for 10 seasons. But his career lasted well beyond the nineties drama. Most recently he played Fred Andrews on Riverdale, and he had filmed scenes for Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, scheduled for release in July of this year.
As news broke of his passing, there was an outpouring of grief from the entertainment industry, his friends and his fans.
Olivia Munn summed up everyone’s feelings, saying he was “gone way too soon”.

I don’t understand how he’s gone.
His soul always shined so bright. His smile. His talent. His kindness. He was always the coolest person in the room.
