Have you noticed it? Suddenly metallic, gilded lid eyes are everywhere and there’s one particular hue leading the way – copper. The warm, summery hue made a statement on the Spring/Summer 2017 runways at Erdem, Marchesa, Emporio Armani and Stella Jean, while seen swept onto numerous It-girl lids from Hailey Baldwin to Kylie Jenner.

“Copper is a great Spring to Summer statement look, which can be worn with countless fashion looks and is perfect for a night out or even at work,”

says make-up artist and Make-up Director for L’Oreal Paris Australia, Tobi Henney, explaining how this warm, bronze hue has been on high rotation in her kit. As for making shade work for you, Henney says to work back with your own iris.

“Copper tones are all warm, however they can range from bronze or rust to orange based in tone. I love to use more orange copper tones on blue eyes, brown based copper tones on green eyes and rust based copper tones on brown eyes.” With bronzes, oranges and rusts set to be the must-try eye shadow shades this coming party season, we asked Henney for her top five copper eye tips.

1. If wearing this shade in the day time I would recommend to keep the majority of the eye shadow on the lid, pairing it back will keep it subtle. Blend the edges and work in a matte brown tone in the crease for more depth.

2. A metallic finish is fun for evenings. Team this with a volumising mascara, my current favourite is L’Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara to make your eyes pop.

3. Nude eyeliners are my favourite tools to open the eyes, the alternative being brown or black would of made this look more dramatic.

4. Definitely team your copper eye looks with a beautiful glowing bronzed skin. The entire makeup look should look aspirational and like Summer-like. Ensure the T-Zone is powdered and matte and keep the cheekbones and high points of the face luminous.

5. Elongating your eye shape has the power to change your entire makeup look. I love working with eye shapes and creating illusions with makeup. The best trick is to start practicing eye shading by using a matte taupe colour. Play around with different shapes and you will notice how it changes the look of your eye makeup.
