Under the David Jones metaphorical sun, Aveda’s Creative Director, Terri Robertson-Kirkwood, sent the girls at the Spring Summer ’17 show down the runway with dreamy summer hair. And whilst summer typically conjures images of salty beach waves, Terri believes the summer hair trajectory is on a slightly different path. “Hair texture has been moving away from beachy or controlled waves, we are now seeing textures that become an enhanced take on your own hair, curl is embraced but not contrived and it’s more about the movement being relaxed, healthy and more natural,” she notes. That ubiquitous trend of individuality was omnipresent once again, with the “natural vibe and hair type” of each model used to create unique looks which, as a collective, still remained wholly pertinent to summer.

Whilst all three looks were reminiscent of sun-spiked Aperol Spritz’s, our fancy fell for the low textured knot.

‘The knot was created to allow each girl to celebrate their unique and individual beauty. The Knot is a twist on the classic chignon – however we pulled it apart to make it narrow rather than round, this keeps that classic chignon profile the suits everyone but still keeps it super fresh.’
“The key to the look is beautiful conditioned healthy hair with the lightness but power of the Aveda products,” notes Terri. Low-hanging, wispy and beautifully romantic, it’s a modern summer fling we want to be apart of. Here, ten steps to get the look.

1. Towel dry hair gently and well then prep with Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil.
2. Spritz root area with Aveda Volumizing Tonic or if hair is fine spritz with Aveda Thickening Tonic.
3. Apply Aveda Phomollient from root to tips evenly. Using your fingers rake hair away slightly upwards to create natural volume.
4. Use the Aveda Paddle Brush to give the hairline and parting a finish. Using a hair dryer continue drying the top part of the head and leave the hairs underneath to dry in a more natural way, this will give the look an undone feel.
5. Puff Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo into your hair – this will give the hair grip to support your look.
6. Using only your finger spritz hair with Aveda Air Control all around the hairline and rake fingers through and direct towards the nape of the neck. Secure with a fine band.
7. Finely mist over ponytail you have created with Aveda Air Control. Then place a band 6 to 10cm from the end of the ponytail and secure. Twist the ponytail until it starts to wind into the head, allow the middle of the ponytail to loop and secure above your original band.
8. Repeat below the band with the remainder of the ponytail. Then secure the remainder of the ponytail by tucking this under your knot.
9. Gently tease small pieces of hair away from the knot to create more texture, and secure any area that feels loose.
10. Finish with a spritz of Aveda Control Force
