Steps to the cool-girl top knot
Hairstylist Jonathan Colombini is part of the Kardashian and Jenner family’s highly covetable glam squad. While her sisters Kylie, Khloe and Kim are known for their ever-changing hair looks, Kendall is the low-key hair trailblazer of the Kardashian/Jenner klan most notably via her trademark top knot.

From her model-off-duty buns to her red-carpet-ready versions at the American Music Awards and for her 20th birthday last year, her messy top knot at the Yeezy Season 3 show cemented it as her signature. Colombini was the man behind that memory-making top knot and here he shows us how to twist it yourself.

STEP ONE Gather hair into a ponytail high on the top of the head
TIP Use two brushes: a wide bristle brush to gather the hair and a boar bristle brush to smooth any bumps
STEP TWO Secure with an elastic, or a bungee tie to adjust tension for a smoother crown and tighter ponytail
STEP THREE Using your finger as a centre point, twist the ponytail around and into a bun. Leave ends loose for a more effortless look
STEP FOUR Anchor your bun in place with two large, U-shaped pins
STEP FIVE using smaller bobby pins, secure the base of the bun in place, closing off any gaps between the bun and the crown of your head
Step six Remove the anchor pins and finish with hairspray
TIP Use a tail comb to gently drag back any bumps along the underside of your bun or along the crown.
