One piece swimsuits have ruled the runways for several years now, and sales stats at Australia’s biggest online fashion retailer The Iconic prove their star-power shows no sign of waning.

According to sales stats, the classic one-piece is still the site’s highest selling style – far out-selling bralette, bandeau and triangle bikinis – but the big difference this year is their retro overtones.

While summer 2016 was all about the luxury-look minimalist swimsuit (black, black and black mixed with a touch of neutral), this year has got a little more bling to its swing. Colour features heavily in their four biggest swimwear trends for 2018, which were showcased in one of the most picturesque Australian fashion shows in recent memory in late November.

Hosted by television presenter Ksenija Lukich, the sunset event saw dozens of male and female models walk a floating runway on Sydney Harbour, with the city’s skyline, Opera House and Harbour Bridge as backdrops.

The 120 looks were separated into four key trends, all inspired by various influences from the 1960s, 80s and 90s. The first, dubbed 90s Noir, saw black teamed with white and gold accessories and ticked the biggest pattern trend of the season: gingham.

The second, Red and Yellow, featured Baywatch-vibe red and sunflower in classic ‘90s colour blocking. Balancing the brights were Palm Springs pastels from the 1960s, which look ideal with straw hats and neutral accessories.

Finally, the Retro Brights trend had a ‘80s throwback feel with bright colours and high leg lines accessorised by giant hoop earrings and high tops. Get your high-fashion beach-game on’s never been so comfortable.
