The Morning Show actors Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon joined the legendary Julie Andrews on The Graham Norton Show across the weekend – and all three were given a Friends trivia test. While The Sound Of Music star definitely knew Rachel and Ross were “on a break” and Witherspoon recalled the time Jill Green was lactose intolerant, it was Aniston’s answer about Rachel’s beef trifle that confused quizmaster actor Ian McKellan. In fact, it confused everybody. It went down like this:

McKellan: “How did Rachel ruin the British trifle?”

Aniston: “I put beef in it. I put beef in the bottom. I layered beef into the trifle.”

McKellan: “You didn’t. You put Shepherd’s Pie in it. And Shepherd’s Pie is not made with beef, it’s made with lamb.”

Aniston: “…”

The truth of the matter is, Rachel did put beef in the trifle. Let’s revisit the scene here, at 2.47:

Ross later discovers that Rachel made half a British trifle and half a Shepherd’s pie. But McKellan is also correct: Shepherd’s Pie is made with lamb. In conclusion, the Friends writer’s room needed a culinary class.

Aniston and Witherspoon were on The Graham Norton Show to plug their new series The Morning Show. The former is being praised for her performance as news presenter Alex Levy who wakes up one morning to discover her co-host of 15 years, Mitch Kessler (played by Steve Carell) has been fired following allegations of sexual assault. “This role never could’ve come to me any sooner than now,” Aniston recently told EW. “It’s one of the hardest jobs I’ve had. I knew I was up to the task, but then there was the excavation of all the emotions in order to create this world for this woman. All of her lifelines are falling away. I would walk out of some of those scenes feeling like a manhole cover just came off my back.”

Director Mimi Leder (Wonder Woman) says Aniston’s performance is one we haven’t seen since 2014 movie Cake. “No one has ever seen Jen Aniston jump into the deep end like this. She’s totally a woman on the verge.”

The Morning Show is streaming now on Apple TV+.
