We’re not sure what type of circles Jason Momoa runs in but he’s kind of got to get nicer friends. The Justice League heartthrob says he was “kind of bummed out” when some of his pals told him the DC Comics superhero film wasn’t doing so well at the box office.
“I try to stay the f**k away from what people say,” he said. “I didn’t want to look [the reviews] up. I don’t want to look up the bad and the negativity. I don’t think that’s useful; it doesn’t help.”
The movie is held together by Gal Gadot who plays Wonderwoman mum to Ben Affleck’s Batman dad in assembling a group of supernatural individuals who, together, hope to save Earth from an evil villain. Momoa plays Aquaman and gives a really great performance (it’s not too much of a challenge next to a mundane Affleck though), enough to make his own spin-off.
The 38-year-old former Game Of Thrones actor says despite the critic’s opinions of Justice League, he’ll stand behind it and its director Zack Snyder who Momoa credits with breathing new life into the DC tale.
“[Snyder] came in with, ‘I’m going to make Aquaman a badass and I’m going to change stuff, and change the myths about this guy,’” Momoa explains. “And I busted my ass.”
“I’ve seen [Justice League] twice,” he continues. “I loved it the second time even more. I’m actually going to watch it again with my kids and my godchild. I’m going to see it with the perfect crowd of people – a regular crowd instead of at a premiere. So I’m excited.”
The film’s characterization has been a main point of criticism. Three new characters were introduced – Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg. There wasn’t quite enough time to explore each character’s background properly – it was rushed – and for this reason, the outspoken Momoa controversially admitted “[Justice League] could have been two movies.”
“A lot of things got cut. But it’s not my movie. There was a lot that was there we just couldn’t get in.”
