Now just one year shy of turning 50, Jennifer Lopez, worldwide pop sensation, box-office-hit actress, mother of twins, sell-out stadium performer, designer, fragrance mogul, author, TV star and activist is hands-down life goals. The star, who made her debut as an actress way back in 1997 has since successfully ticked off just about every dream career. It’s hard to believe she’s actually just one person.

Today (US time) is Jenny From The Block’s 49th birthday. That means she was born in 1969 when Nixon was president, Woodstock defined a generation and man landed on the moon. Yet she still looks like she would get ID’d at a bar.

Since her launch into the stardom stratosphere she has just casually slayed every forte she could fit on to her resume. And, like it was no big deal, has given us style that unleashed sexy, fun and fabulous back on to the red carpet.

From her days of daring Grammy’s gowns while dating Puff Daddy to poking fun at herself on numerous TV appearances here are the 15 reasons we love JLo. We remain forever fans and can’t wait to see what she does (and wears) for the next 49.

Firstly, because Jenny From The Block. The Number 1 single from 2002 that launched her pop revival, a million dance floors and cargo-pants-with-heels

That her love for Versace runs deep. Literally. Her 2000 Grammy’s appearance saw her nominated for ‘Waiting For Tonight’  but it was her cut-to-here down-to-there versace dress that became infamous. She has since worn the designer her entire career, including in her latest music video

That she was one half of the original ‘Bennifer’. Ben Affleck and Lopez starred in each other’s film and music projects. they were constant paparazzi darlings for being so fabulously extra and so incredibly unexpected

because Her style has been endlessly glamorous. Over her decades of red carpet appearances Lopez has proudly made curves sexy during eras of trendy waifish models. Her love of ‘naked’ dresses, body-con couture and hourglass silhouettes came long before the Kardashians’ version

Because when she spectacularly fails she also spectacularly rises. Her film Gigli in 2003 was coined as one of the worst films of all time. It became the butt of jokes and she was forced to endure years of ridicule. But like a true champion it made her stronger. And we all know it didn’t stop her…
