Colour was in no short supply backstage Jeremy Scott Spring 2020 runway show. Acidic shades of yellow, lilac, turquoise, blue and pink were everywhere, from wigs to eyes to nails. Known as one of the most outrageous shows come fashion month, it’s no surprise the energy backstage was frenetic; thick with hair and glitter and models. Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldrige, and Grace Elizabeth were among the chaos – still recognisable underneath all the colour and texture. It was, as always, a technicolour dream where maximalism was king and the beauty was anything but boring. In the universe that is NYFW, Jeremy Scott was certainly the rainbow after the unseasonal NYC September rain. Read on for our exclusive beauty notes and backstage insights.

With makeup by MAC Cosmetics, legendary artist Kabuki was inspired by the comedic musical Jem and the Holograms; an 80s rockstar fantasy characterised by bold eye shadow and big, candy-coloured hair. To emulate a similar vibe that was in line with the eclectic Jeremy Scott brand, MAC artists used Paint Sticks and shadow reflects in various shades across the inner corner of the eyes before defining with black liquid liner. Pro Longwear Nourishing Foundation was buffed into skin as needed, with the Hyper Real Glow Palette in Get Lit dusted over cheekbones for glow. Lips were coated in either C Thru, Snob, or Fashion Punch Lip Glass depending on the model’s skin tone, too.

As for hair, the motto was high, higher, highest. Each model wore a hyper-coloured wig to match their eyes, teased and snipped into choppy bangs and razor-sharp layers. The texture was airy and expansive – think Joan Jett meets Tina Turner. And in the spirit of more is more, nails were tacky-but-brilliant stick-ons in shades of pink, yellow, and turquoise animal print. It was fun and frivolous – the embodiment of the creative melting pot that is NYFW. To shop an edit of the products used, keep scrolling.
