Jon Hamm checked-in to a rehabilitation facility in the US in March last year for 30 days as he grappled with his addiction to alcohol.

Rather than shy away from discussing his stint in rehab, the Mad Men star was only too happy to talk about it in a new interview, and even suggested we all give it a try sometime.

“It has all these connotations,” he told Mr Porter. “But it’s just an extended period of talking about yourself.

“People go for all sorts of reasons, not all of which are chemically related. But there’s something to be said for pulling yourself out of the grind for a period of time and concentrating on recalibrating the system. And it works. It’s great.”

Don Draper, the troubled 1960s advertising executive Hamm played in Mad Men that won him several Emmys and Golden Globes, unquestionably had a battle with the bottle, but Hamm has always refused to discuss whether portraying the dark, alcoholic character led or exacerbated his own issues with booze.

However, he was willing to share some of his flawless comic timing with the British publication.

“I find [therapy] very helpful . . . I know the English are a lot more skeptical about it than Americans are, but maybe after Brexit, you’ll change your minds.”

That, my friends, is what’s commonly called a Zinger with a capital Z.

Hamm has an ongoing role in The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and has several film projects in post-production, the next being Keeping Up with the Joneses alongside Zach Galifianakis, Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot, which is out October 20.
