Being drawn into the narrative of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce is just the latest difficult situation Jennifer Aniston has had to handle with the world watching. Her marriage to and then divorce from Pitt (amidst rumours he’d been unfaithful with Jolie), her childless status and even her estrangement from her mother Nancy Dow, who passed away this year, have been discussed in public consistently for more than a decade.
In awe of the way she’s handled her private life playing out in public is her husband Justin Theroux. The actor and director, who’s currently doing publicity for his new movie The Girl On The Train, told the Sunday Times his wife is “a proper badass”.
“She has lived through a lot of bullsh*t. Many people would have crumbled under some of the stresses that have been put on her,” he continued. “I’m very proud of her for that, for the way she handles herself. So in a weird way it’s an honor to stand behind her. Truly, in that sense, she’s amazing.”
He also touched on the never-ending tabloid stories about whether Jennifer is or isn’t pregnant, which she called out in a Huffington Post essay in June.
“[I] feel protective, of course. She’s similar to me—she doesn’t pay attention to it unless she has to. But there’s definitely times when your privacy is invaded. Areas of your personal life that are yours to discuss among yourselves and your friends and family shouldn’t be a topic for national debate.
“There are definitely times when I don’t like walking past the newsstand in the US.”
Jennifer and Justin got married last year after dating since 2011.
