Before Kim Kardashian and before TMZ, there was the red swimsuit-striding Pamela Anderson and her Jack-guzzling beau Tommy Lee. Known for their fast-paced hedonistic lifestyle – and coupled with a well-documented penchant for pharmaceuticals – it was impossible to look away. Every move was captured was paparazzi and splashed across global magazines. It seemed fitting, then, for the current number one headline holder, Kim Kardashian-West, to give a (Halloween) nod to her 90s predecessor last year and go as Pammy to a spooky party.
The iconic look is from Anderson’s appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards with Lee back in 1999. Kardashian went to town with over-lined lips, a corset to rival the affixation levels of her Met Gala Mugler and an identical furry hat. But it was the blue eyeshadow that set it off, an ironic choice since Kardashian had only weeks before ridiculed her older sister, Kourtney, of looking like a ‘f***ing clown’ with cobalt eyelids while the pair were shooting Keeping Up With The Kardashians in Japan.
Karma meant Kardashian-West went to her Halloween party – one filled with millennials – who didn’t recognise her or her best friend Jonathan Cheban dressed as Lee. Referring to the crowd, the reality star used the R-word in one of her videos which saw her issue an apology the following day.
