Kim Kardashian-West made a rare public appearance on the weekend paying tribute to Jonathan Murray, co-founder of Bunhim/Murray Productions which co-produces Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Stunning in a white Rick Owens gown, the reality star skipped the red carpet and took the back entrance to the Beverly Wilshire hotel where she presented Murray and his partner an award at the Family Equality Council’s Impact Awards.

“Harvey was running a chain of retail stores and Jon had just finished filming a pilot for a reality show on MTV called The Real World,” Kardashian said. “Harvey had serious doubts that a reality show would be successful but thought Jon was cute so decided to give it a shot anyway. Since that initial meeting, Jon has gone on to produce some of the most successful reality shows in history, including Project RunwayRoad RulesBad Girls ClubBorn this Way and my personal fave: Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Season thirteen, tomorrow night [in the U.S.], don’t miss it.”

“But the project that brings them their most pride and joy is their son Dyllan, who was born 18 years ago,” Kardashian continued. “At the time, there were very few resources for LGBT parents and their families, so Harvey threw himself into creating those resources, supporting existing organizations like the Family Equality Council and creating new opportunities like one of the first ever stay-at-home gay dads’ groups. Tonight I was so honored to give the family impact award to the man who believed in me from day 1”.

A new trailer for Season 13 of the reality show was released across the weekend detailing the pressures of life in the spotlight. But if you take a look back at Season one, being famous was never a storyline, the plotlines always surrounded familial drama. But now, in 2017, the Kardashians are celebrities in their own right and the show has made a subtle transitioning into acknowledging this very public life.

Set just after Kardashian’s robbery in Paris, the trailer shows the true consequences of life in the spotlight. “As a mom, you want to keep your kids safe,” Kris Jenner says. Khloé adds: “Everything has changed, but we can’t be afraid. We can’t let people scare us into not living our lives.”
