NEW YORK CITY: This story comes to you on the same day Kanye West joked to Forbes that he would like to change his name to “Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West” after the outlet failed to recognise him as billionaire. (“I showed them a $890 million receipt [for his shoe sales], and they still didn’t say ‘billionaire’” West said in an interview.)

The rapper’s wife Kim Kardashian has a net worth of AUD $539 million (and West himself is reportedly actually worth AUD $350 million). But in a new interview at The New York Times DealBook Conference in New York City on November 6, the reality star said she’s “really cautious” about spending money. If she overdoes it, she will replenish that cost quickly.

If she makes a big purchase, Kardashian’s damage control plan involves taking up an extra sponsored social media post. “If I overspend on something, and a paid post happens to come in at that time, I’ll weigh it out and think, ‘OK, well I have to pay for X, Y and Z,’” Kardashian said.

The 39-year-old didn’t reveal her rate per Instagram post but she did admit to being offered AUD $1.4 million by a fast fashion brand to post but that her husband didn’t want her to.

“They would knock off Yeezy all the time, his colour palette, designs. So this fast-fashion brand offered me a million dollars for an Instagram post, and I thought, ‘OK, well that’s easy’ – just to wear clothes that I could pick, anything that I wanted, it’s a quick post,” she explained. “And when I told [Kanye] about it, he asked me not to do it and said out of respect, I don’t think that we should be giving them everything, they copy everything.” West then gifted his wife a AUD $1.4 million cheque for Mother’s Day and shares in his Yeezy brand as a “thank you for not posting for the other brand.”

Before you judge her though, Kardashian’s spending isn’t limited to shopping. She said she will do the occasional “off-brand” sponsored post to fund her prison reform projects. If I have a paid post that comes in and I think, ‘OK, well this can fund X amount of people that are behind bars, that can help free them with simple legal fees that they just can’t afford, then that would be worth it to me, even if the post might be a little bit off-brand for me.’ I really weigh out different things now than I used to,” she said.
