When news broke that Kristen Stewart had spectacularly been caught cheating on her then boyfriend Robert Pattinson in 2012, lots of people had an opinion. It would appear though the now leader of the free world, Donald Trump, was busily sharpening his (seemingly) misogynistic sword. “She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again – just watch,” Trump tweeted.

Six years on, that same man is now the President, an idea Stewart in the past has found hard to grapple. “He was mad at me a couple years ago. He was really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is fu**ing crazy,” Stewart mused to Variety last year in perhaps her most awkwardly twitchy interview. “I can’t even understand it. I literally cannot even understand it. It’s such far-out concept that I don’t want to believe that actually is happening. It’s insane.”

Trump who was host of television show The Apprentice at the time didn’t hold much weight and Stewart consequently didn’t take much notice. “At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference,” Stewart says. “It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right! He’s probably, like, going to tweet about this.”

Stewart then appeared on Saturday Night Live where she launched at Trump. “The president’s probably watching and I don’t think he likes me that much. Here’s how I know … Four years ago, I was dating a guy named Rob and we broke up and then we got back together, and for some reason it made Donald Trump go insane. I know what you’re thinking, that’s so crazy the president tweeted about you,” she began.

“The president is not a huge fan of me. That is so okay because Donald if you didn’t like me then you’re not going to like me now because I’m hosting SNL and I’m like sooo gay dude.”

Now, the guy in the centre of it – Pattinson has responded to a question put to him by People. “Does it seem somewhat surreal that the current president of the United States once wrote a bunch of tweets about you?” But his answer was so damn confusing. Tell us what you think:

“I think there’s so many different levels of it. Your identity exists on many different planes at the same time and they all can be quite different from each other. When he said that, it didn’t really mean anything. But I guess now I’m sort of thinking, like, ‘Well, I guess that is related to me,’ ” he said. “But how does that fit in with all the other things going on in my life? And sometimes you think, ‘Can I use this in my acting? Or should I be putting it away.’ It’s kind of interesting, I guess. I don’t know — this could be why people get annoyed with me.”

Hmmm…
