“Music means so much to me – I can put on a song and just escape,” muses deep thinker Kylie Jenner. “When you put on a song you love and can just connect with, it can change your whole mood and just lift you up, even if it’s just a few minutes.” (Not unlike how GRAZIA feels about a new pair of designer heels.)

Teen queen Jenner is the face of a new highly commercial collaboration that drops today between Apple-owned Beats by Dre headphones and Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing, a long-time friend of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. (Jenner wore his wares to the last two Met Galas, and shots of his office on Instagram famously show framed portraits of Kim and co atop his desk.)

The Beats/Balmain range of headphones and Bluetooth earphones comes in two hues – cream and safari (aka khaki) with metallic gold accents – and comes with the inflated price tag expected of stamping one of the world’s most prestigious fashion logos on the product. Each set comes with a matching suede case finished with a Balmain plaque and the luxe brand’s signature coin zipper pull.

Why did Rousteing agree to a collision of his high-end French fashion and the street-smart American tech? “Seeing music and fashion completely intertwined simply reflects how my generation grew up,” he says. “We simply can’t conceive of one without a full helping of the other. Beats gets that too. It’s obvious that the brand agrees with me that the best of music only be paired with the best of design.” Prices range from $320 to $800 on the Apple Australia website.
