A new era of female empowerment was ushered into the entertainment industry with the founding of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements a little over a year ago.

There are plenty of signs in Hollywood that women are unifying and banding together, but sometimes it’s smallest, simplest gestures that hold the most power.

Take Lady Gaga. The Oscar nominee took a moment on Wednesday to come to the defence of Cardi B, who is being trashed online by some who say she didn’t deserve to win Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards – the first solo woman to do so.

Cardi deleted her Instagram account after getting fed-up with the furore tarnishing her historic win, which is what seemed to trigger Gaga to speak out in support of the Bodak Yellow artist.

“It is so hard to be a woman in this industry,” Gaga tweeted.

“What it takes, how hard we work through the disrespectful challenges, just to make art. I love you Cardi. You deserve your awards. Let’s celebrate her fight,” Gaga continued.

“Lift her up and honour her. She is brave.”

More of this, please.
