The best kind of news story is one that involves Lizzo, especially when she’s twerking and most especially when she’s twerking in a thong at a Lakers game.
On Monday night in Los Angeles, the ‘Truth Hurts’ singer sat front row at the basketball with friends where she filmed players’ backsides, ate hot chips and basically had a ball. But it wasn’t until halftime that things really took off. When cheerleaders came out to do a routine to her hit song, ‘Juice’, Lizzo jumped up to sing and dance with them, prompting the cameras to flick to her and the audience to go wild.
What the cameramen and fans didn’t know was that Lizzo was wearing a black t-shirt dress with a cut-out at the back, which perfectly showed off her black thong – something she made sure to draw attention to when she turned her back to the cameras and started twerking.
The moment was captured on the big screen for a few seconds before it quickly cut back to the cheerleaders:
Following the unexpected halftime show, Lizzo quickly became the number one trending topic in the US with some commending the singer for her hilarious cameo at the game, others taking issue with her outfit and calling it “indecent” for a professional basketball game where children were in attendance and some noting that she coincidentally (or not) dropped a music video the same day she went viral.
Though the debate on Twitter rages on, if there’s one thing we’ve learnt from Lizzo, she doesn’t care what any of us think. In fact, she’s busy trying to get a photo of herself flicking her hair and checking her nails mid-game to be hung in the Louvre. Rightly so.
