Accessory wizard Lucy Folk has a knack for locking in on-the-rise global talent to front her new season campaigns.

Last year, it was Iowa-born 18-year-old Alana Arrington, undoubtedly the biggest ‘no-name’ star on the SS17 catwalks. This year, Brazilian model Waleska Gorczevski stars in these images, shot by Australian fashion snapper (and past GRAZIA photographer) Pierre Toussaint around Sydney Harbour to reflect the newest collection’s Angler name and theme.

GRAZIA spoke to the designer about her inspired choice of model and the new range of bags, jewellery and shades – including stand-out gold mesh ‘Squid’ earrings for $350 – which is a stark departure from desert vibe last season and available on the Lucy Folk website now.

Why the fisherman theme? We are all angling for something in life. We have our ways with words and how to get what we desire. But maybe the ultimate angle is to be at one with nature and to engage with the land. To connect to the earth and feel, smell and see your environment. Be quiet. On a boat, in the water, with nothing but a fishing rod and maybe some sharks circling your boat.

How does being Australian and our unique environment and sense of style influence your jewellery and ACCESSORy design? I can escape into nature when I am in Australia. The clean sea air, my sandy feet – it really is grounding being at home. I adore the rugged coastline and the relaxed attitude in Australia. I feel most at ease when I wake up and see the sea. I am inspired by the textures I find on my walks and as the pace isn’t so fast I can get lost in my thoughts and come up with ideas at ease. When you feel refreshed you can think clearly.

What do you see as the biggest trend in jewellery between now and summer? I don’t follow trends so I am the wrong person to ask. I don’t see the statement earring going anywhere and we certainly have you covered.

This is a collection inspired by water and shot around Sydney Harbour, but you chose Brazilian model Waleska. Why her in particular? Coming from Brazil, she embodies beach culture and is effortlessly beautiful. We are living in a multicultural society and I enjoy working with girls from different cultures as I am curious to hear how they perceive Australia and learn about their backgrounds.

“I enjoy the mood on the shoots with an eclectic team that is not so expected.”
