Street smarts: Roy Luwolt and Mary Alice Malone

What you’re looking at here is one of the clever-slash-coolest collectives in the rarified world of high-end shoe design today.

In the brief three-and-a-bit years since Mary Alice Malone and Roy Luwolt founded Malone Souliers (as creative director and managing director respectively), they’ve gathered a raft of fashion editors and stylists as die-hard fans, coveted shelf space in the world’s most prestigious stores, plus a list of celebrity devotees that includes Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Blake Lively, Anna Kendrick, Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o and Cameron Diaz.

Now it seems they’ve cultivated another industry fan, friend and fashion collaborator in the storied French couture house Emanuel Ungaro. In a case of classic-meets-cool-kids, the half-century-old label engaged the American-born, London-based footwear brand to conjure a limited edition range of 12 women’s shoes.

Polka dots and ruching are two of the five Ungaro-inspired details woven into the shoe capsule

The collection focuses on five key design elements: ribbon, ruching, dots, lace and collar details, which were all inspired by the classic couture house Ungaro’s brand signatures found in their archives. All dropped exclusively on matchesfashion.com today.

“The high heel is a magician,” says Mary Alice Malone, a woman after GRAZIA’s heart. “A beautiful heel will sculpt the foot and create a transformative reaction through the entire body. They will affect posture and the way you walk, but also the way you talk, the way you carry your head, your entire being.” Amen.

While it’s hard to look past the hot pink mesh caged stiletto boot or a tri-pink toned closed-toe stiletto sandal, the stand-out in the range for Team GRAZIA is this spectacular spotty mule in black, white and this season’s hottest hue, bright yellow. (Fun fact: Malone uses a classic shoe-making technique with her mules that means they don’t make that annoying slapping noise when you walk.)

Bold as these beauties look, it’s still the little details that make all the difference.
