Calvin Klein has two new, beautiful faces; Lupita Nyong’o and Saorise Ronan. The Award-winning actors will front the campaign for the new fragrance, Women, the first fragrance by Chief Creative Officer, Raf Simons, for the house.
The new fragrance marks a momentous occasion for Calvin Klein, and what better way to celebrate than with the signing of two supremely talented, beautiful and strong women, Lupita Nyong’o and Saorise Ronan. The voices of a generation, both Nyong’o and Ronan are universally recognised for their unique talent, temerity, intelligence and character. A beautiful representation of women and their strength, they are an apt choice for a fragrance devoted to femininity and its many facets.
Another woman, Anne Collier, directs the campaign, one which champions iconic women and celebrates the heroines of contemporary culture, including Nyong’o and Ronan. Both women feature in striking portraits alongside women of the past whom have inspired them – icons of of femininity who have not only helped to shape their identities and their creative spirit, but their role as women. Nyong’o sits besides two female visionaries; the multi-disciplinary performer Eartha Kitt and iconic American actress Katherine Hepburn. For Ronan, it’s award winning actress Sissy Spacek and singer and civil rights activist Nina Simone.
Beautifully arresting, the first look at the campaign makes a striking proposition for femininity, and for Simons, it was this that inspired him. “With this fragrance, we wanted to the put the concept of plurality centre stage. The campaign is an exploration of femininity – a group of women bonded by a common thread; the desire to have the power to create their own identity, and to support and lead the way for those that come after them.”
Much like the women who will front the fragrance, the perfume itself is as infinitely varied as the female personas who inspired it. A complex scent of duality, it is a woody floral which fuses strength with fragility, freshness with sensuality.
Calvin Klein Women is available from the 30th September, but as of today, Calvin Klein is beginning the conversation by asking: “Who Are You Women?” By using the #IAMWOMEN, women around the world can pay homage to the females in their lives who have both shaped them and made them individuals, by sharing a picture of those who have inspired them, and continue to do so.
