The entire world is talking about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent announcement to step back as ‘senior’ royals in a move which has been dubbed ‘Megxit’ in the UK, but despite the chaos, the Duchess of Sussex is continuing on from her new base in Canada, where she was spotted running errands on Vancouver Island over the weekend before visiting a women’s charity overnight.
The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre in Vancouver, which provides meals, counselling and advocacy for women in the community, posted a Facebook photo of their staff posing with the duchess, writing, “Look who we had tea with today!”
Confirming the reason for Markle’s surprise visit, the organisation wrote, “The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, visited us today to discuss issues affecting women in the community.”
Of course, Meghan has been a vocal feminist and activist for most of her life, so her decision to make her first stop of 2020 at a charity dedicated to helping women comes as no surprise. It’s also a hint that we’ll still be seeing a lot of the duke and duchess in their new roles, whether they’re in the UK or otherwise.
Following Harry and Meghan’s shock statement on January 8th, the Queen called her family to her Sandringham estate to discuss next steps, confirming that evening that she supports the couple’s decision to become financially independent, to step back and to split their time between Canada and the UK.
Meghan is reportedly staying at a secluded waterfront mansion, which boasts not one, but two private beaches, while in Canada.
