Following the news that Donald Trump will make an official visit to the UK in June, the question many are asking is: which royal family members will meet the US president?

Not Meghan Markle. Despite being Trump’s fellow American and an important link in the relationship between the two countries, Meghan will not be there to greet Trump.

So far the palace has said only of Trump’s visit: “The Queen will welcome the President and First Lady. Further details in relation to the attendance of other Members of the Royal Family will be released in due course.”

But British publication The Sun cites an insider who says there’s no way we’ll see Meghan shaking hands with Donald and Melania.

“I’m told that there are no plans for Meghan to meet President Trump.

“Not as a snub because – how shall we say – it’s a quite convenient period of maternity leave so she won’t be working.”

Indeed. How lucky for Meghan to have Baby Sussex as an excuse –  her past comments about Donald Trump would make a face-to-face meeting rather awkward.

“It’s really the moment that I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada [if Trump was elected],” she said in 2016, describing him as “misogynistic” and “divisive.”

Meghan and Prince Harry are expecting the birth of their first child any day now.
