Thomas Markle, the father of the Duchess of Sussex, has revealed he found out his daughter was expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry while listening to the car radio. In a new interview with Mail On Sunday (because Meghan Markle’s entire family cannot stop talking to the media), the 71-year-old said he “was sitting in line waiting to cross the border when I heard the baby announcement on the car radio.”

“I thought, ‘My baby is having a baby.’ It was a very proud moment,” he said. “I was filled with love, joy and happiness for both my beautiful daughter and my son-in-law. A new baby is a blessing and I look forward to seeing a little Meghan or a little Harry.”

Meghan was born on August 4 in 1981 at a hospital in Los Angeles. Her father and mother, Doria Ragland, divorced when she was just six-years-old. It is believed Mr Markle has not had any contact with his daughter since he and his other daughter Samantha were caught staging paparazzi shots.

The Duke and Duchess are currently touring Australia and the South Pacific. Markle’s gruelling schedule was cut back yesterday with Kensington Palace assuring the public she was fine. “After a busy program, the duke and duchess have decided to cut back the duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week-and-a-half of the tour,” the palace said in a statement.

The Royal couple are headed to Fiji today.
