Signalling the birth of Baby Sussex is imminent, Meghan Markle’s mum Doria Ragland has arrived in the UK.

People and British publication The Sun both report that Meghan’s favourite parent (not a hard competition to win) flew into London from her home in Los Angeles overnight, ready for the birth of her first grandchild.

“Like all mums, Doria wants to be there for her daughter at this seismic event in her life,” and insider told The Sun.

Well, duh.

But on a serious note, Meghan’s strained relationship with her father Thomas Markle is well-documented, and so it’s lovely that she’ll have a parent there for the birth.

Unlike with the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children, which were announced to the public immediately afterward, we may not know about the birth of Baby Sussex for several days or more. That’s because Harry is not in line to the throne, meaning there’s no chance their child will someday be king or queen.

With that in mind, Meghan and Harry released an official statement this month informing the public they plan to celebrate the birth of their child “privately” before sharing the news – which it’s believed they’ll do via their new Instagram account.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” the statement said.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

I think that’s fair enough. Of course, that’s not to say I won’t be checking their Instagram account with, frankly, an obsessive frequency. I’ll admit it.

Meghan and Harry are settled in at their new Windsor mansion, Frogmore Cottage, a home it appears was specifically chosen because of its whopping 10 bedrooms, meaning there’s plenty of room for Doria and Meghan’s US friends to stay.
