Meghan Markle has made the somewhat surprising decision to have her baby shower in New York City.

The New York Post’s Page Six reports that Meghan is currently in the Big Apple ahead of a baby shower being held on Tuesday (local time). According to the website, the celebration for the Duchess of Sussex is being held at a hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Our picks are the The Carlyle, a historic luxury property known to be a favourite of visiting A-listers and dignitaries, or The Mark, an equally glamorous boutique hotel.

It’s being hosted by her best friend and host Jessica Mulroney, who is based in Toronto and has been in the Big Apple for New York Fashion Week.

Meanwhile E! News reported the Duchess was spotted at Laduree restaurant and bakery in SoHO.

Meghan is nearing the end of her pregnancy, with the 37-year-old expected to give birth at the end of April. So the decision to fly to the US for her baby shower seems unexpected.

My bet? Meghan is homesick. It’s understood she has made just one trip back to her native America since she married Prince Harry almost a year ago, a short private visit around the middle of 2018.

Or, perhaps her pregnancy cravings have been of the American junk food variety, as much as she loves her avocado toast.

Dunkin Donuts would not fare well on a trans-Atlantic flight.
