You cannot help but think Michelle Obama just wouldn’t be bothered with this sort of rhetoric. She wouldn’t retaliate to a cheap shot from her husband’s ex-lover. But here we are, in 2017, with President Donald Trump’s wife, First Lady of the United States Melania, taking aim at an interview given by her husband’s first wife, Ivana.

Speaking to Good Morning America to promote her new book, Ivana – who was married to the now-President for 15 years in 1977 and had three children: Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric – has talked about what type of father Donald was citing his inability to communicate properly with his children until they were of age. “Donald was on the telephone making the deals. He was a loving father, don’t get me wrong, and he was a good provider,” she said. “But he was not the father who would take a stroller and go to Central Park. It was only when they were 18-years-old that he could communicate with them, because he could start to talk business with them.”

But it was her swipe at the current First Lady (Donald’s third wife) that sent Melania into a spin. “I have the direct number to the White House, but I no [sic] really want to call him there because Melania is there,” Ivana said. “I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife. I’m first lady, OK?”

Melania – who usually remains quiet on all matters – has chosen this opportunity to stand her ground and released a statement via a White House representative. “Mrs Trump has made the White House a home for [their son] Barron and The President,” the statement read. “She loves living in Washington, DC and is honoured by her role as First Lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books”

“There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise.”

Ouch.
