Michelle Williams is a married woman, the actress has revealed.

Didn’t know she was dating anyone? Don’t worry, most people didn’t – Williams and her new musician husband Phil Elverum didn’t go public with their relationship until now, after she confessed in an interview that they married in secret this month.

The 37-year-old said she had always hoped to find love again after Heath Ledger, the father of her daughter Matilda, 12, died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2008. At the time, they had only recently separated.

“I never gave up on love,” Williams told Vanity Fair.

The All The Money In The World actress also had some touching things to say about Heath, saying he loved her with “radical acceptance”.

“I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'”

Of her new relationship with the Mount Eerie front man (it’s unclear how long they’ve been together), she said their relationship “is very sacred and very special.”

“Phil isn’t anyone else. And that’s worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole.

“I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free.”

Elverum, 40, is also a single parent. His wife died of pancreatic cancer in 2016 when his daughter, now three, was just an infant.

Williams said there was only a handful of guests at their secret ceremony in upstate New York earlier this month. The couple and their daughters will soon move into a new home in Brooklyn together, she said.
