Melbourne-based artist Stanislava Pinchuk has collaborated with Neuw Denim on a collection of leather jackets customised for 21st century supermodels like Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Joan Smalls. Suffice to say, we’re as enamoured with the results as we are with the remainder of Pinchuk’s body of work.
Pinchuk, who works under the alias M-I-S-O, has embellished each jacket with the calling cards of her traditional fine arts practice: intricately inked constellations and pinpricked fine drawings that trace topographies both real and imagined.
For the uninitiated, Pinchuk has garnered a considerable following enamoured not only with her stunning paper works but with her home tattoos, which she creates for her close friends and collaborators. Preferring a bartering system in which tattoos are traded for personal offerings instead of payment, Pinchuk’s intimate ink works have been exchanged for dinners, books, and in the case of Florence Welch recently, “boy advice and singing Weeknd songs at the top of her lungs” in Pinchuk’s Swanston Street studio.
In the past, Pinchuk has collaborated with Chanel on a series of works and in 2013 the National Gallery of Victoria acquired two of her pieces, making her one of the youngest artists to be included in their collection – ensuring that now the NGV and Gigi have at least one thing in common.
You’d be well-advise to see more of Pinchuk’s work on her highly-engrossing Instagram and Tumblr feeds.
