Once used to shape poodle perms and disco ‘dos, this retro redux of the ’80s cult classic is anything but daggy. Although confined to the curl in the decade of decadence, mousse has been resurrected and reimagined for a millennial audience. Take Jen Aitken’s Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam, which has revolutionised the dry shampoo market, breaking free of the homogenous spray formula and letting us lather our way to clean locks with whipped goodness – sans water. There’s also thickening mousse à la Kerastase Densimorphose, even frizz-free mousse, like Evo Whip It Good Moisture Mousse, to buzz off the fuzz. But of course, the perfunctory function of mousse remains: to volumise, so with that, you hair scaffolding for height should be Oribe Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse. The foamier the better, we say. Get frothy.
