In short, it confirms to the universe you’ve hit the A-league. So we can only imagine the pride three Australian brands must have felt (we feel it too) when they caught wind of the fact pieces from their new collections been selected for the mega-retailer’s beautiful high profile Spring/Summer 2017 advertising.
The campaign, shot in Portugal by Gregory Harris and showcasing rising star models Sofie Hemmet, Jing Wen, Grace Elizabeth and Lineisy Montero, is split into five double sets of images, tapping some of the biggest trends for the new season: colour blocking, reworked shirting, utility, sports luxe and romantic bohemia. It’s in the latter three themes that pieces from Aussie faves Zimmermann, Ellery and Tome appear, and when you spy the signature pieces chosen by PORTER magazine’s fashion editor Morgan Pilcher, who styled the shoot, it’s easy to see why.
Should you be in the market for a feminine statement dress, it’s hard to look past Zimmermann, which model Grace Elizabeth floats down a Lisbon stone stairwell in, along with an Alaia belt and ATP sandals.
Similarly, Tome is widely known for its edgy tailoring and on this occasion features in the Utility-themed spread, where model Jing Wen wears a Tome collared cotton shirt, MSGM pants and Etro shoes with Chloe bag.
In another shot, model Lineisy perches on a stone step sporting flared Ellery pants similar to those worn by Pip Edwards to Paris Fashion Week late last year, along with a bold Marc Jacobs striped rugby jersey and white boots by The Row.
Of course, the one thing all three of these NAP-endorsed Aussie brands have in common is that they’ve been part of the big international runway circuit – Tome and Zimmermann at New York Fashion Week, while Ellery shows in Paris.
And while it’s no surprise to anyone familiar with these brands that they’re playing with the luxury big guns in a design sense, it certainly is satisfying to see the rest of the world-in-the-know thinks the same.
