Nicole Kidman has opened up about an incident which occurred on the set of her new film Destroyer. The 50-year-old Australian actress who plays an LAPD officer was mid-scene when she was told to run.

“We were in South Central LA shooting and they were like, ‘Get inside, there’s a shooter, a live shooter,’” Kidman said during a BAFTA Life in Pictures event in London.

“I’m like, ‘What?’ I’ve got the (prop) gun and I’m out on the street and they dragged me in, and I hit the floor because there was a shooter and helicopters.”

Kidman, a method actor hit a deep depressive state whilst filming the gritty crime thriller. In a recent interview with Variety, she says she trained with a military veteran to learn how to handle an assault rifle. “All of the weapons, I can load them, I can fire them, I know them,” Kidman says. “I trained for about a month, but every day. It was cold, and I was tired, and I would just train. And my hands cramped, because I don’t have big hands and I don’t have strong hands. It was awful.”

“I was very, deeply depressed,” she says. “It was the point where my husband was like, ‘When the hell is this going to end?’”

Interestingly Kidman also wore prosthetics on her face and developed a limp. She would come home of a night with both and said her husband, Keith Urban was weirded out. “Wouldn’t you be weirded out if you were married to one person, and they show up looking like that?”

It’s well documented Kidman would come home with bruises on her body after filming scenes for television hit Big Little Lies. She played Celeste, a lawyer who was in an abusive marriage to Perry (played by Alexander Skarsgård).

Kidman will star opposite Jason Momoa and Amber Heard in Aquaman in Australian cinemas December 26.
