Nike is the latest brand to champion the futuristic couture trend set to take over 2019. Think luxe materials, shimmering metallics and hypnotising chromatic finishes, like those in that stunning Balmain SS19 runway or our GRAZIA Christmas Hotlist (Part Two).
To bring Nike’s rendition of the light-catching trend to life, it recruited Yoon Ahn (the co-founder of streetwear brand AMBUSH and jewellery designer for Dior Homme) as a new muse. Together, they have created what’s best described as ‘space crew meets high-fashion’.
Ahn envisioned this apparel line to be comprised of transitional day-to-night pieces that accommodate for the busy lives of the everyday women. Given she is herself an in-demand businesswomen and friend to equally busy A-listers Rhianna and Bella Hadid, this is a concept she is very familiar with.
Functionality was a crucial element for construction, as was creating a trend-setting aesthetic. Given the Korean-American’s experience as clothing and accessory designer, she was well-versed to design the space-chic style seen in this Nike X AMBUSH range.
Clearly inspired by the ’90s, there are classic cargo pants, reversible windbreaker jackets, and a luscious faux-fur coat in the mix. All equally tap into the brand’s heritage, but modern twists like fleece material, strips of reflective fabric, metallic foil and an emblazoned Nike logo make them uniquely 2018.
Nike and Ahn balanced out these hero wares with the inclusion of a black Dry-Fit bodysuit and crop-top to be mixed and matched with everything in the capsule line.
The sportswear giant also collaborated with AMBUSH on a fresh pair of kicks, with Yoon Ahn combining the Air Max 180 and Air Zoom Flight The Glove to create a special Nike X AMBUSH Air Max 180 sneaker.
While the apparel collection has already gone live and is only available in Australia from streetwear retailer Sneakerboy, you’ll have to wait until Autumn 2019 to see the shoes IRL.
